Welcome to Algebra 1
Algebra 1 is a complete and self-contained
course designed for students and others engaged in self-study.
The lessons in the course teach the fundamentals of algebra 1.
The program provides a wealth of examples and practice problems for the student.
Students can also measure their progress with lesson tests.
This program also contains a recordkeeping system that allows students, parents, and
teachers to monitor each student's use of the program.
This couse is organized like a textbook. The main sections of the course are like the units in a textbook. These different sections are displayed in the list on the left side of the menu screen under the heading "Units". Once you select an item in the Units list, you will see the lessons contained in that unit displayed in the list on the right side of the menu screen. When you are ready to begin the lesson you have chosen, click the "Start Lesson" button on the menu screen. The program is designed to give you a great deal of flexibility. Although the sections and topics are intended to be worked in order, you can work through them in any order you wish.
Each lesson contains 4 sections: CONCEPT, EXAMPLES, PRACTICE PROBLEMS, and LESSON TEST. The CONCEPT section appears first when you begin a lesson. Use the "Continue" button to move through the screens of this section. The EXAMPLES section contains examples that show how the concepts of the lesson are applied to problems. The PRACTICE PROBLEMS section allows the student to apply what they've learned to solving problems of varying difficulty. The LESSON TEST section lets students measure their progress by taking a 5-problem test covering the material of the lesson.
This program's recordkeeping system gives students and teachers a powerful tool for monitoring each student's use of the program. Before it can be used, the teacher must create a student list of one or more names. Use the Records Menu to add or edit the list of student names. The Records menu is also used to view student performance summaries which include, for each session: lesson name, the date, the number of minutes spent in the lesson, and the student's performance on practice problems and lesson tests. The information can be displayed on screen, or on a printed report. "Session Records" show a student's performance during the current session. Session records are viewed through the Records menu.
